What will you do

Day 1
9:00 – REYKJAVIK
Pick up between 8:30 and 9:00, at your accommodation, or meet us at bus stop number 8, near Hallgrímskirkja church, downtown.

IN THE GLACIER
We head to the village of Borgarnes and Borgarfjörður and to Langjökull, the second largest glacier in Iceland, where you embark on an ice tunnel journey. A monster truck will take you to the top of the glacier, driving through a magnificent landscape. Once at the top of the glacier, a tour guide will lead you inside a man-made ice tunnel, the largest man-made ice tunnel in the world. With temperatures around 0°C (32°F), it's important to dress well. Stop at the stunning waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss before heading north, passing Grábrók Mountain on the way to Akureyri. Overnight at hotel in Akureyri.

AKUREYRI
Nicknamed the "Capital of North Iceland", Akureyri is an important port and fishing center on the north coast of Iceland. It's easy to be captivated by Akureyri with its brightly colored wooden houses, cozy bars and steep streets leading up to the beautiful church. The traffic lights are nice too, with the traffic lights in the shape of red hearts.

Day 2
9:00 – GOÐAFOSS
After breakfast head to eastern Iceland. On the way to the beautiful Mývatn area, we stop in front of the amazing Goðafoss, "Waterfall of the Gods", one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. The name comes from the year 1000 when lawmaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. When Þorgeir returned home from the Alþingi Parliament, he would throw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall, symbolizing the change in Iceland's official religion.

MÝVATN
The Mývatn area is located atop the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, at the divergent boundary between the North American and Eurasian plates. Lake Mývatn, Lake of the Midgens) is a pearl of the North. Mývatn and its environment are known for diverse geological wonders, rich birdlife and biological activity. It is the fourth largest lake in Iceland, characterized by my volcanic features, coves and inlets, and its surface is dotted with 50 small islets and rocks. The lake is part of a swarm of fissures named after Krafla, in a syncline between fault lines. The area was created following an eruption over 2,000 years ago and is still an active volcanic system. The surrounding area is covered in lava pillars and pseudocraters. Midges are abundant in the area and these tiny flies give the lake its name. There is a diverse birdlife on and around the lake, and Mývatn is home to many types of lake and marsh birds. However, much of Mývatn's fame can be attributed to the fact that during the summer there is a greater variety of duck species gathered on and around the lake than anywhere else in the world.

DIMMUBBORGIR
Dimmuborgir, Dark Fortress, is an area of spectacular rock formations. It is a large area composed of various volcanic formations, large lava rocks, lava columns and volcanic caves, resembling an ancient collapsed citadel. Dimmuborgir is the home of the Icelandic Jule Lads. Look for them when you walk among the large lava pillars.

NÁMASKARÐ
Námaskarð, Hverarönd, is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in Iceland. It is an area of ever-changing patterns of hot springs, boiling mud pools, mud pools and fumaroles. Everything is at a boiling point in the beautiful arctic wilderness. No greenery in sight. The boiling heat and the constant emission of fumes made the land completely sterile, therefore unsuitable for the sustenance of flora and fauna. Walking in the area makes you feel like you have entered another planet.

KRAFLA
Krafla is a central volcano with a caldera 10 km (6.2 miles) in diameter. Krafla was formed during the last interglacial period and has since been filled almost to the brim with volcanic material. The collapse of the caldera probably followed the eruption of a tufa layer that is exposed around the caldera. There has been frequent volcanic activity in the area during the historical period. In the years 1724-1729, an eruptive episode occurred in the Krafla-Námafjall fissure swarm, known as "the fires of Mývatn". The volcanic events occurred in the Krafla Caldera and on the Krafla fissure swarm during the 1975-84 "Krafla fires" which are a striking repeat of what happened during the "Mývatn fires" in the 1720s Enjoy the incredible volcanic landscape before entering the relaxing atmosphere of the Jarðböðin Spa.

JARÐBÖÐIN
The Mývatn Natural Baths have a naturally heated artificial lagoon with mineral-rich waters known for their health-promoting properties. Relax in the alkaline swimming lagoon and enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding the spa. After relaxing in the warm water, return to Akureyri. In the afternoon short visit of the city and free dinner. Overnight in the same hotel in Akureyri.

Day 3
9:00 – SNÆFELLSNES PENINSULA
After breakfast enjoy the Snæfellsnes peninsula before returning to Reykjavík.
THE VILLAGES OF HELLNAR AND ARNARSTAPI
Hellnar and Arnarstapi are small old fishing villages. Hellnar Beach has an amazing rock formation that we will visit.
BLACK BEACH OF DJÚPALÓNSSANDUR
The black beach of Djúpalónssandur. Djúpalónssandur Black Beach is a bay at the tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The small black pebbles on the beach have been smoothed away by the ocean waves, and scattered among them are rusty parts of a ship wreck that ran aground in the area in 1948. In the past, fishermen tested their strength by lifting heavy boulders, that still lie there. The heaviest is Fullsterkur ("full strength"), weighing 154 kg, next is Hálfsterkur ("half strength") weighing 100 kg, hálfdrættingur ("weak") weighing 54 kg, and Amlóði ("Useless ") 23kg. They were traditionally used to qualify men for work on trawlers, with the Hálfdrættingur being the minimum weight a man would need to lift onto a ledge at hip height to qualify.
THE CLIFFS OF LÓNDRANGAR
The Lóndrangar cliffs are rocky peaks that have been formed by the erosion of the surrounding material. The Lóndrangar are basalt volcanic plugs, 75 and 61 meters high.
KIRKJUFELL MOUNTAIN AND KIRKJUFELL WATERFALL
Kirkjufell, located on the northern site of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, is one of Iceland's most picturesque mountains and, with Kirkjufell waterfall nearby, makes for a wonderful nature stop
VATNSHELLIR LAVA CAVE
Vatnshellir Lava Cave is a lava tube in an 8000 year old lava field. The lava was formed in an eruption at the nearby Purkhólar crater. During the eruption the lava flowed downstream, cooling at the surface while still flowing below, finally flowing out and leaving a beautiful lava tube, which is now accessible.
