In the past, fishermen tested their strength by lifting heavy boulders, that still lie there. The heaviest is Fullsterkur ("full strength"), weighing 154 kg, next is Hálfsterkur ("half strength") weighing 100 kg, hálfdrættingur ("weak") weighing 54 kg, and Amlóði ("Useless ") 23kg. They were traditionally used to qualify men for work on trawlers, with the Hálfdrættingur being the minimum weight a man would need to lift onto a ledge at hip height to qualify.

Hraunfossar is one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls, where a series of cascades gush from porous lava into the Hvítá River. The flowing water extends over a distance of about 900 meters, out of the Hallmundarhraun lava field. Nearby Barnafossar, which means children's waterfall, takes its name from the children who lost their lives in the waterfall. The story goes that there was a natural, lava bridge over the waterfall, which was destroyed by a mother who lost two of her children while crossing the river on that bridge.
